ALS Mid-America Golf Foundation of Kansas City in Partnership with Tom Watson

Tom Watson has a close connection to the ALS community: Bruce Edwards, who was Watson’s caddie through his eight major championships, passed away from ALS in 2004. Well-known for his 39 PGA Tour victories and his Hall of Fame induction in 1988, Watson has been as much of an influence in the charity sphere as he was on the green. He joined forces with Caddy for Life author John Feinstein in 2005 to establish the Bruce Edwards Foundation for ALS Research and is a member of the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins’ inner circle; in both, Watson continues to help lead the fight to find a cure for ALS.

DBJ is the presenting sponsor for the annual Joe McGuff Classic, which has benefited ALS research for the past 14 years. The annual ALS golf tournament originated in 1983 by former Royals player and Baseball Hall of Famer George Brett. When the tournament began, it was known as the George Brett Celebrity Golf Classic. This premier tournament was renamed in honor of the great Kansas City sports writer Joe McGuff in 2003 and has continued the tradition as an exciting event designed to entertain its guests while raising much-needed funds for research and care services.
